About the Owner

George Grote is a Cincinnati-area native who has returned to the area more since Covid began and has been a Kentuckian again for the last few years having lived in Taos, New Mexico for most of the previous 8 years. His construction experience started with painting and pressure washing decks as a teenager and has steadily increased in complexity since. Among his many experiences in the various facets of construction, earthen masonry has been of particular interest and any opportunity to deploy these methodologies will always receive priority out of pure enthusiasm. That being said, the majority of George’s jobs have been performed with more conventional materials. Something he hopes might change in the future.

Leaky Shower/Tub Replacement

  • Shower/Tub tear out and replaced with low-threshold preformed pan.
  • Full-service build reduces friction and ensures accountability.
  • Grab bars and wall-mounted seat (not-pictured) for age-in-place comfort.

Small Custom Closet

  • Slide-out hangar rod
  • paintable or stainable pine v-groove
  • Project was to hide this ductwork and prevent it from overheating the bedroom.

Custom Closet

  • Pull-down, soft close clothes hangars

Cantilevered Slab Mountainside Patio

  • Eventually dyed with a chemical wash.
  • Also built a woodshed with sliding doors (pictures missing)
  • Metalworker and Electrician installed custom metal and wire railing with LED color-changing lights.
  • Relief joints cut after a few days.
  • Group of 4 concrete finishers and boom to pour this form.

  • Mountainside bracing.
  • Block retaining wall with drain coming from gutter and channel drain.

Patio and Utility Room Addition

  • The timber porch and addition to the right was a footer to roof build.
  • Younger George feeling great about the roofing being on a long project.
  • Sensei wrapping the footer to rigid-Styrofoam sheathing transition.
  • This would get wrapped with stucco wire and we would hire some finishers to bring bigger machines and help plaster.

Difficult Job Site Sauna

  • This would get a railing and aluminum siding.. Heater was from a kit.
  • The sauna is WAY down there
  • So many steps!!
